Crochet bind-off:
Berhubung pola asli tidak terlalu jelas, saya analisa dari gambar pola tersebut. Ternyata, pola memiliki 2 pilihan crochet bind off, yang saya sebut sebagai

(1) 5 Loop,

5 Loop edging

dan (2) 6 Loop.

6 Loop edging

Cara bind off serupa, hanya hitungan stitchnya yang berbeda. Silakan pilih salah satu, atau boleh juga gunakan cara bind off lain yang sesuai selera.

Berikut ini cara bind offnya:
1. Pindahkan 2 sts dari Jarum kanan (right needle/RN) ke jarum kiri (LN)
RN adalah jarum dengan st yang terakhir di knit (kalau pakai DPN). Berarti LN adalah jarum tempat memulai rajutan.
2. Dengan menggunakan hakpen, matikan (bind off) 3 sts pertama yang ada di LN.
3. ulang pola berikut sebanyak 8 kali:
Pola ulangan 5 loop:
ch 3 bo4, ch7 bo4, ch7 bo5, ch7 bo4, ch7 bo4, ch7 bo4, ch3 bo3.
(ch 3 = chain/buat rantai sebanyak # stitches, bo# = bind off # sts)

Pola ulangan 6 loop:
ch3 bo3, ch7 bo4, ch7 bo3, ch7 bo5, ch7 bo3, ch7 bo4, ch 7 bo 3, ch3 bo3

4. Ch 3, lalu matikan stitch tersebut ke stitch bind off pertama.
5. Blok doily.

Doily again

Managed to crochet this classic doily... Finished last week, i think.

I just need to buy that softy board to block this thing.

In my spare time, and in the midst of drowning among my plants, i tried to squeeze sometime to crochet a new doily for my new home. 

I took the pattern from an old book I bought on second hand book store for a S$5. I think i bought it around 10 years ago and used it once for my first doily ever made.

Looking forward to complete it.

Beginner Tutorial: Blocking circle doily with measuring tape

Hello all,

I finally decided to make another tutorial again. Not a video one, it's just a simple pictorial so, hopefully it's easier for you to understand and easier to load :D.

I made these doilies few months ago, and barely had time to do the blocking until today. As I finished blocking the first doily, it came to my mind to make a tutorial on how I do the blocking.

I do the circle doily blocking using pins, blocking mat (for me, soft sponge that is usually used for children playing area), and of course a measuring tape.

If I want to make a perfect blocking, I should use a tracing paper/cloth with circles at different diameters drawn on it. But somehow, that thing is expensive, and I'm too lazy to make one, since I don't normally make doilies. So I decided, let's just use the measuring tape.

Since I am using cotton, I soaked the doily in starch (you don't need to do this with wool or acrylic, water and soap will do). Contrary to some japanese book, I don't spray the starch onto the doily when it was blocked. I found that less trace of starch can be found when the doily dries. I soaked it for 30 - 60 mins. While I soaked it, I always make sure that I shake the bowl/basin where it is soaked and even out the starch, every 10-15 minutes. After it is soaked, do not wash away with clean water. If you wish to wash the doily from dirt and oil, do it before you soak with starch. Squeeze away the excessive water as much as you can, but do not twist. Squeeze by pressing it.

When you are ready with your blocking mat, prepare a towel and wrap the doily in it and further squeeze it. Sometimes, it helps by jumping on the towel. I personally enjoy jumping on it :p.

Ensure that the blocking mat is big enough, and get your pins and measuring tape ready.
In blocking circle doily, it is important to pin it one point to the opposite point (180 degree). To find the first opposite, pick one point and then fold the doily into two.

After that, just pin them to mark it. Don't worry about the measurement, just pin it so that you won't loose the points that you will pin first.

After that, without removing the marking pins, pull the doily to even out and expand the doily.

Pull the doily like this, to even out. Do it on all corners of the doily. After that, put your right hand on the center and pull the doily outward using your left hand (for the left side), and to the same for the right side.

After it evens out (approximately), pin the measuring tape on the middle. It is important not to move the measuring tape after you pin it, and at anytime during blocking. Otherwise, you'll lose your reference point for blocking. I usually, poke the pin needle right onto 0 point of the measuring tape. It doesn't matter if you use inches or cm. As long as you are consistent with radial measurement that you decided (later).

Now, I decided that the radial should be 7 inches. So I pull the first point and pull it to 7 inches.

And then, I do the same to the opposite point. 7 inches from the first point.

Don't worry if it's crumpled, we'll fix it by blocking.

And then start with the third and fourth point. You can choose any points to be your third, but always do the opposite 180 degree for the fourth (and all other even points). And so on...

Doing the fourth point, after third point is set.

 Now, all of corner points are already pinned. If you want to leave it like this, it's ok, i think.

All pointy edges are pinned.

But I do pay attention to the smaller details. There are picots in between of every pointy corner, and I would like to have it clearly defined through blocking.

When I pull it, I decided that 5.75 inches is enough.

All picots in one corner are pinned at 5.75"

Just like how you do the points, for the picots, do one to the opposite point of another.

the picots are pinned, and the opposite picots also pinned. Next, choose the third point.

And all points and picots are all pinned well.

Finished blocking. Now wait till it dries!

Snack doily, the story

Finally i finished the doily!

I made this doily since my friend who owned a yarn store is holding a CAL for this doily. I decided to join and immediately pick one of my cotton #20 stash. The brand was "enjoy" and it was made from japan. No idea how or where did i bought it.

First glance was ok and immediately casted on, from the center. Which is a big mistake. I should start from the edge. I was insisting that i still can manage (which i think is true), but realized after making the center and 2 edgings, i will not make it to the end. So i stopped while trying to remember where did i buy the yarn.

That was april, and near to end of may, i am yet to find the yarn. So i decided to use a new yarn, which i bought 2 balls, assuming it was enough. Now i was starting from the edge, and combine the second edge, but realized there are mistakes within the edge itself. So i stopped again and restart on 27 may.

Knowing the mistakes now (hey, i did twice already), so i decided to make 5 independent edges and combined later. That way proven to be faster. I finished crocheting the body by 4 june, incorporating the center and then go to the circular edge with picots. Finished in 3 days since i forgot to bring my needles to office and late nights, my sister keeps bugging me.

As mentioned on my previous post, i found out that i left one stitch during combining. So, i made some adjustments and hoping that people will not notice. It still looks ok, just a bit off centered on the binding part.

Blocking:

Washing in normal detergent and rinse. Soak in 1 teaspoon of starch, added with just enough warm water to dissolve and just enough cold water to soak. No rinse and bloat the excess water using towel and start to pin out. 

So, after the blocking, here's the result.

The result is still create a little drape, better than i thought. I must learn better techniques in blocking circular shape, i am really bad in this, i think my doily is not fully "circle". Realized that i missed 1 set of picot in one place and another, and then realized that some part was blocked in an overlapped manner. So... Yes, it's not a perfect circle. I may need to buy a fabric with measurement grid on it. 

Anyhow... It was a pleasant crochet. Was surprised that actually it came out quicker than i thought. And then the result was better than i thought. My first time of doing a joining in doily. Feeling a bit annoyed that the chart did not chart the steps of crocheting (or they did, but i dont know japanese). But all in all, this is a great break from knitting shawls.

Now i am back with my expanded try out of a shawl. Hopefully this will work. 

Snack doily: honest mistake

As usual, whenever i have a pattern with me, i tend to make an obviously stupid mistake and in the end... Had to do all sorts of creativity to mend it.

Lucky, this time the mistake was not that bad, and i can still mend it and hide the mistake.

Let me show you where.

Here's the correct chart:

i forgot to make that 6 trebble (is it trebble? I dont know what's the "word" for that stitch. I dont do written text pattern for crochet). I should've crochet it when i joined the sides. But i totally forgot on all sides.

So, i decided to make the 6 trebble from a modified branched trebble. All crochet from the center doily.

Snack time, doily time

My friend was inviting me to join her CAL and i was tempted with the beauty of the doily that she showed. I joined, and even though i an now past the deadline, i am still eager to finish the project. It is snacking time compared to my other projects, but doesnt mean it requires less commitment.

Long story short, after i casted on and finished about 2 side parts and 1 middle part, i just realized that my yarn is not enough. How foolish... It was april by the way. And then, i decided to look for a similar one, and found Corona #20 white color at golden dragon. But... I made too many mistakes with the old one, and finally gave up and restart on 27 may. Deadline is 31 may. Way to go, tya...

So, without further ado, i crochet on and on and... Now i am 2 side leaves left and 1 center away from a finished doily.
